Artist: A Film on Garo Antreasian

Typography & Hand-Lettering Design, 2018

I had the honor of contributing typography to Artist, a short film celebrating Garo Antreasian. A seminal American master printmaker, abstract painter, and educator, Antreasian is widely credited with reviving fine art lithography in the United States. He dedicated his 96-year life to pushing technical and artistic boundaries, most notably as the co-founder and technical director of the renowned Tamarind Lithography Workshop.

Inspired by Antreasian’s mastery of form, I wanted the typography to feel authentic. I reverse-engineered his personal handwriting, using traditional lithography ink to hand-paint this custom brush script.

Garo Antreasian’s exhibition history spans more than 50 years. His paintings, drawings, and master prints are part of the collections of over 60 museums across the United States, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
